WELCOME TO THE NATIONAL TEACHERS COLLEGE

Mission Statement:
“Dedicated to the education of K-12 learners, the mission of The National Teachers College is to enrich the professional practice of existing classroom teachers and to provide an innovative, site-based apprenticeship program for the initial preparation of teachers. We believe this is best accomplished in settings where the school classroom serves as the learning laboratory and in an environment that fosters scholarship, commitment and passion.”
Few colleges are founded to explicitly address the K-12 learner through its teacher education programs, and to do so using
site-based, face-to-face formats. Whether through our Fellows Program for practicing teachers or our Teacher Resident Program, our collective goal is to provide the best possible education for the students they serve.
The degree programs and professional development initiatives of The National Teachers College are rooted in constructivist learning theory and in the ideology of educating the whole child. This foundational thinking asserts that learning involves the construction of meaning, that sophisticated learning is both experiential and authentic, and that achieving 21st Century learning goals must involve all dimensions of the whole child. At the root of each program’s tenet of commitment is the belief that there is no limit to anyone’s potential to learn and the corresponding belief that each teacher must be committed, in an unqualified way, to helping every student learn and grow in every domain.
Implicit, also, in the College's founding, are the ideologies of social justice and equity through education. As such, our curriculum is built on fundamental questions about the purpose of schooling, the nature of learning, and how one realizes - in real classrooms - one's unqualified commitment to every student's success.
The National Teachers College was founded to create, implement and maintain programs that realize these goals.
The National Teachers College is a private, 501 (c)3 institution of higher education.
