MISSION
Mission Statement
“Dedicated to the education of K-12 learners, the mission of The National Teachers College is to enrich the professional practice of existing classroom teachers and to provide an innovative, site-based, teacher resident program for the initial preparation of teachers. We believe this is best accomplished in settings where the school classroom serves as the learning laboratory and in an environment that fosters scholarship, commitment and passion.”
Teaching for Meaningful Learning
The National Teachers College was founded to provide re-imagined master’s degree programs for both practicing teachers and for those who are interested in entering the field. We believe that teaching for meaningful learning is the goal of education, and our partnerships with area schools and districts are central to providing exceptional master's degree programs designed to meet this goal. Our model of delivery - using a site-based, cohort approach - is designed to bring the latest research and evidence-based knowledge about teaching and learning to both the professional teacher and the teacher-in-training. Furthermore, our Teacher Resident curriculum is tailored to the demographics of the partner school - thus ensuring a preparation that is targeted for success. Our M.Ed. for current teachers is personalized to enhance relevance. Our emphasis on bringing the College to the school classroom provides the link between theory and practice that is so important for the success of today's teachers.
Centers for Professional Development
In addition to our degree programs, we provide professional development opportunities through our two centers: The Center for Cultural Competence and Teaching and The Center for Curriculum and Teaching. Current teachers seeking professional development opportunities and/or credit for license renewal, can take advantage of courses offered through these centers.

Scholarship - Commitment - Passion
Scholarship, commitment and passion are central to our mission and are reflected in our curriculum and modeled by all who work in our programs.
Scholarship: We believe that, akin to the fields of law and medicine, teaching is a profession with scholarship at its core. The most successful teachers possess deep and sophisticated understandings of both the content they teach and the pedagogy involved in teaching it. Their practice is informed by thoughtful consideration of education's philosophical approaches, theories and research. These approaches to scholarship are infused throughout our programs.
Commitment: The call to ensure that every student succeeds has increased over the past 25 years and now is evident in many of the national standards that inform teaching practice. We concur. We believe that each teacher must hold an unparalleled commitment to every student’s success – regardless of who that student is or what each student brings to the classroom. We expect our graduate faculty, mentor teachers and graduate students to demonstrate that commitment throughout their work in our programs.
Passion: Passion is what inspires us; it’s what makes us genuine and drives us to be better. Vibrant, thriving classrooms are filled with teachers and students who are passionate about the content that is being taught and about the pedagogy involved in the teaching-learning dynamic. In these classrooms, teachers also demonstrate a love for working with kids and a passion for the social and intellectual milieu of the classroom. Our goal is to model and foster this kind of passion in all that we do.
Authorization and Accreditation
The National Teachers College is incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 private institution of higher education. The College’s corporate headquarters are located in Cleveland, Ohio.
Those who established The National Teachers College have a long-standing commitment and dedication to the education of children and adolescents. The research is clear that the single, most significant variable in improving the education of children is the teacher. Our goal is to help place the most qualified, well-prepared teachers into school classrooms. The key personnel who are working with the College bring decades of experience in education, teacher preparation and teacher development to this initiative. Their work is driven by their commitment to the education of teachers and their belief that this College and its programs represent one of the best responses to the national call for reform in teacher education.
The College operates its administrative functions out of its headquarters in Cleveland, but does not have a main campus. The graduate programs are conducted in a face-to-face format, with each partner school serving as an off-site campus for the College. Faculty are hired to teach the graduate courses at each site.
The College is authorized by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to grant the Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Ohio. TNTC adheres to the standards and requirements of the Ohio Department of Education and to those of the national accreditor for teacher preparation programs - CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation). Additionally, TNTC's curriculum and pedagogy are informed by the standards of each national content organization: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM); National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE); National Science Teaching Association (NSTA); National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS); the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the International Literacy Association (ILA) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
